After four long months of rebuilding a new engine, one long month without my car, one week trying to figure out why it wouldn't start, three weeks breaking in the engine, and two days of happy boosting... the new 96 2+2 TT Z is down. All because of a broken idler pulley bolt.
Here's a picture of the pulley.
Here's a picture of the broken bolt on the engine block.
Here's the tattered up remains of the timing belt.
I haven't removed the bolt-remains from the block yet so I haven't been able to do a compression test to see if I have any bent valves. I'm taking a poll to see how many valves people think I've bent. I was going 40mph when the engine died (immediately put it into neutral) and probably tried starting it 10+ times.
